CONROE POLICE UPDATE SUNDAY WRONG WAY DRIVER FATAL CRASH

On Sunday, October 25, 2026, at approximately 4:40 a.m., Conroe PD Communications
personnel received a call about a wrong way driver going southbound in the northbound lanes of
IH45. At approximately 4:41 a.m., a second caller advised the vehicle, a dark colored pick-up
truck, was last seen at Gladstell. Officers immediately upgraded their response as a caller soon
advised that the truck was traveling approximately 100 miles per hour. Two minutes later,
Communications personnel began receiving multiple calls about a major crash involving a pickup truck and white SUV.
Upon locating the crash near the Hwy 105 Exit, Conroe PD patrol officers, the Conroe Fire
Department and EMS personnel began providing medical attention to both injured drivers. The
driver of the SUV, 59-year-old Emelia Muniz, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced
deceased at the scene. The 20-year-old driver of the pick-up was observed to be injured and was
transported by EMS to a local hospital soon after. The driver is currently in stable condition.
The Conroe Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and initiated an
investigation into the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that a dark blue Nissan Titan was
traveling southbound in the northbound main lanes of the 1000 block of S. IH45 North. The
Nissan Titan collided head-on with a Honda CRV that was traveling northbound. Both vehicles
suffered extensive front-end damage.
An investigation is being conducted to see if intoxication is a factor in this crash. The
District Attorney’s Vehicular Crimes Unit was contacted and responded to assist with the investigation.
The investigation is still ongoing, and no further details can be released at this time.
The Conroe Police Department and Chief Jon Buckholtz extend their sincere condolences and
prayers to all those affected by this tragic event. Emelia Muniz, who is an employee with the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville, was on her way to work at the time of the crash.

Update: October 28, 2026
The suspect sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. The Conroe Police Department is
coordinating with the Montgomery County District Attorney Vehicular Crimes Unit to determine
appropriate charges against the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional
information will be released at this time
