Deputy Helps Stranded Father and Son Get Home Safely

HARRIS COUNTY, TX- A Harris County Precinct 4 deputy went beyond his law enforcement duties to help a stranded father and son get home safely after their vehicle ran out of gas along the Northwest Freeway. Deputy Bates with Constable Mark Herman’s Office noticed the stranded vehicle in the 28400 block of the Northwest Freeway. When the vehicle’s owner returned, he explained that he had run out of gas, causing him to miss his son’s appointment. The father had managed to obtain two gallons of gas but was unsure whether it would be enough to get him and his son home to Humble. Rather than risk the family becoming stranded again, Bates offered to help put additional fuel in the vehicle so they could complete the trip safely.

Constable Mark Herman said the encounter reflects the compassion and community service that are part of the job.

“Being a deputy is about more than enforcing the law,” the constable’s office said. “It’s about compassion, kindness, and being there when our community needs us most.”

Herman added, “Small acts of kindness can make a BIG difference!”
