Man Arrested After Allegedly Using Fake IDs to Fraudulently Obtain Tires

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- A 37-year-old man was arrested Oct. 19 after deputies discovered he allegedly used fraudulent identification to obtain tires from Discount Tire locations in Montgomery and Harris counties.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Discount Tire at 24915 I- 45 after an employee reported a suspicious person who appeared to be using a fraudulent Texas driver’s license to obtain credit for a tire purchase.

When deputies arrived and attempted to speak with the man, he fled on foot. Deputies caught and detained him after a brief pursuit. He initially refused to provide accurate identifying information but was later identified as Brent Bascombe.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies discovered multiple fraudulent paper identification cards in Bascombe’s possession. Investigators determined that one of the IDs had been used earlier at a Discount Tire location in Harris County to fraudulently obtain tires. The tires were found inside the U-Haul truck Bascombe was driving and were returned to the store.

Deputies also learned Bascombe had an active warrant out of Florida for criminal mischief.

Bascombe was arrested on charges of tampering with a government record, evading arrest or detention, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, and failure to identify. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
