Montgomery Police Department Warns of Jury Duty Scam

SCAM ALERT: YOU HAVE A WARRANT FOR MISSING JURY DUTY!**
Or do you?

The Montgomery Police Department wants to warn residents about an ongoing phone scam involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers.
Scammers are calling residents and claiming to be officers or deputies with the Montgomery Police Department or Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. They’re even using the real names of law enforcement personnel to make their calls sound legitimate.
The caller typically claims that you missed jury duty, now have an active warrant for your arrest, and must pay a fine over the phone to avoid being arrested.
These individuals can be aggressive, threatening, and extremely convincing. In some instances, scammers have even **spoofed actual law enforcement phone numbers**, making the calls appear to come directly from our department.
🚩HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
🔹 Law enforcement will not call you demanding payment over the phone to clear a warrant.
🔹 Scammers can use real officers’ names and make legitimate phone numbers appear on your caller ID.
🔹 Threats of immediate arrest unless you pay are a major warning sign.
🔹 Never provide payment information or personal identifying information to an unsolicited caller.
If you receive one of these calls:
✅ Hang up immediately.
✅ Contact the law enforcement agency directly using its independently verified phone number.
✅ Do not send money or provide personal information.
Remember: A familiar name and a legitimate-looking phone number do NOT mean the call is real.
And no, you can’t make an arrest warrant disappear with a gift card or a quick phone payment.
Please share this warning with friends, family members, and especially older adults who may be targeted by these scams.
