NEW WAVERLY COVID VACCINE DRIVE THRU CONTINUES TODAY

Yesterday New Waverly Fire Department hosted a drive-thru COVID-19 vaccine event. The event was open to anyone 18 and over. Members of the Fire Department and TIFMAS started at 10 am with 250 doses of the single injection Johnson and Johnson injection. Throughout the day people trickled through. By mid-afternoon, they had only done half of the doses. They will be opening again at 10 am today with another 250 doses. After organizing several successful local vaccine clinics at the New Waverly Fire Station, New Waverly Deputy Chief Kevin Traylor was recruited by State Emergency Officials to serve as the Branch Manager overseeing vaccine efforts in our region. New Waverly Firefighter Cassy Brizendine is assigned to a multi-agency team under Chief Traylor, traveling around the region administering the vaccine to communities in other counties. The teams of Firefighters have administered thousands of vaccines in places like Brenham and Coldspring.

Last week Thursday week Firefighters visited several homes administering vaccines to senior citizens, including one 97-year-old resident. After vaccinating dozens of NWISD staff in earlier efforts, crews returned to the High School Friday and administered the Johnson & Johnson one dose vaccine to more NWISD staff and spouses, helping to reduce the risk for our educators and their families.
