Witnesses thwart robbery, nab fugitive

Citizens took matters into their own hands Friday night, chasing, capturing and holding a suspect until police arrived.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. in the parking lot of Steel City Pizza on Sawdust Road, where a man approached a pregnant woman, demanded money and pushed her to the ground.

The victim, had gone to the restaurant with her family but was lagging behind in the parking lot. Her father and others heard her screams for help. When he and employees of the business saw her attacker running away, they gave chase and caught up with the would-be robber. The man struggled, but the witnesses were able to subdue him until officers reached their location near a Big Lots store.

Allen Hines Pittman, 28 was charged with robbery, and failure to identify fugitive / intent to give false information. Pittman, a.k.a. Kevin Hinez Jones, is currently living in Spring and had an outstanding warrant from the Marshall Police Department for burglary of building. His bond is set at $50,000 on the robbery charge.
