BUSH AIRPORT GROUND STOP-MAJOR DELAYS IN AND OUT

Travelers at George Bush Intercontinental Airport are facing significant flight delays Tuesday evening after a construction contractor damaged a fiber-optic line, Houston Airports said.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for flights bound for IAH from 5:25 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to FAA flight status information.

As of 6:30 p.m., airport officials warned that flight delays and cancellations were possible throughout the evening. International passengers could also experience extended wait times while clearing U.S. Customs.

Crews are on-site working to repair the damaged line. Houston Airports said it is coordinating with airlines and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to manage the disruptions and assist departing and arriving passengers.

The airport has not provided an estimated time for repairs to be completed. Houston Airports said it will provide additional updates as repairs to the damaged fiber-optic line progress.
