LIBERTY COUNTY, TX- A Dayton Independent School District bus driver has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a Woodrow Wilson Junior High School student Friday morning, Oct. 16, according to the Dayton Police Department.
The incident occurred earlier Friday and prompted an investigation by Dayton police in coordination with Dayton ISD. The district initially confirmed that a student had been struck by a vehicle and said preliminary information indicated the vehicle was a school bus operated by a Dayton ISD driver.
In an updated statement released Friday, the district said it was cooperating fully with law enforcement as the investigation continued. Officials did not release additional details, citing the active investigation and the need to respect the privacy of those involved.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the student and their family as they navigate this difficult time,” Dayton ISD Superintendent Dr. Travis Young said. “We recognize the concern this incident has brought to our school community, and we remain committed to providing support while respecting the privacy of those involved.”
The student’s condition and the circumstances surrounding the collision had not been detailed in the district’s statement.
The investigation remains ongoing.
