Obituary for Cassidy Raine’ Dunaway & Message from Sheriff Doolittle

Remembering Cassidy Raine’ Dunaway
March 27, 2001 – October 17, 2026.
This past Saturday, October 17, Cassidy Raine’ Dunaway, 25, tragically passed away following a crash on SH 149 in Montgomery County. Cassidy was the daughter of MCSO Deputy Shane Phelan and his wife, Nikki.
Cassidy was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, devoted mother, and cherished friend. Known for her contagious smile, quick wit, and fiercely loyal spirit, she had a personality that was truly unforgettable. At just 17, she earned the Girl Scouts Gold Award, the organization’s highest achievement. Above all, Cassidy’s greatest joy was being the mama to her three boys, Duke, Jett, and Koa, who were the center of her world.
Our hearts remain with Shane and Nikki Phelan, Cassidy’s three young sons, and all of her family and friends as they navigate this unimaginable loss. We ask our community to continue keeping them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
Though her life was far too short, Cassidy’s love, laughter, and unforgettable spirit will live on through her children and the countless lives she touched.
For those who would like to support Cassidy’s family during this difficult time, a meal train has been organized. Contributions and sign-ups can be made here:
Rest in peace, Cassidy. You will not be forgotten.
Respectfully,
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle
Please join the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in keeping one of our Deputies and his family in your thoughts and prayers following the tragic loss of his daughter in a rollover accident earlier today.
During the accident, two young children were also trapped in the vehicle. Through the tireless efforts of first responders and medical professionals, they were safely freed and transported to the hospital. By the grace of God, they have since been reunited with family and are expected to recover.
Our hearts are with the Deputy’s family, the children, and everyone affected by this tragedy. Our law enforcement family stands together in times of heartbreak, and we ask our community to offer compassion, strength, and support as they grieve and begin to heal.
We respectfully ask that the family’s privacy be honored during this difficult time. Additional information will be shared when appropriate.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18
Respectfully,
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle
