In August 2010, Joseph Branstetter, then 21-years-old, became a hero in Porter, Texas. After a plane crashed in his yard while he was sleeping, Branstetter went outside and removed the pilot from the wrecked plane. The pilot was then Life Flighted from the scene.
Last September, this young hero shot and killed his parents in a home on Oak Knoll off Old Houston Road. According to investigators, he admitted to shooting his father in the head and then walking outside and shooting his mother in the head as she tried to get to her husband. He never gave a reason for the killings.
The Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted him for capital murder.
The District Attorney determined to move the case forward as a death penalty case.
Last Thursday, Branstetter appeared in the 221st District Court and plead guilty to capital murder and agreed to a sentence of life without parole.
