This is a photo of the “Sky Lantern” that was reported as a “fire ball in the sky” by a citizen placing a 911 call to the Sheriff’s dispatcher this past Saturday night. As described in an earlier “News Release”, the balloon is made of VERY thin paper and it measures approximately 3’ tall. A piece of fuel soaked card board measuring about 3” by 4” is suspended at the bottom opening by four thin wires. When this piece of card board is lit with a match it flames and fills the balloon with heat causing the balloon to rise.
