A 13-year-old girl was in the hospital and her mother in jail Thursday after investigators say the teen was stabbed in the middle of the night.
Montgomery County investigators said the girl’s father brought her to Conroe Regional Hospital around 1:30 a.m. Thursday with multiple stab wounds to her back and neck.
The girl’s mother, Dequita Hoefling, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a family member.
Investigators said Hoefling stabbed her daughter while the teen slept.
"The father was asleep in his bedroom and the daughter woke him up. And that’s how he learned what had happened and immediately made the decision to take his daughter to the hospital," Lt. Dan Norris said.
Investigators said the motive was not yet known. They said they’ve never been called to the family’s home in the past.
Hoefling was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $500,000 bond.
The girl was transferred to Memorial Hermann in critical condition, but investigators said she’s expected to survive her injuries.
