253 Texas Sheriffs (of 254) in our State honor Federal Immigration Detainers. I signed my resolution to the Governor this past Friday declaring such for Montgomery County. In the LE community, no office has been more fervent, diligent, or responsible to the citizen’s than Texas Sheriffs. 253 Texas Sheriffs do not want anyone released from our jails who may pose a further danger to society. We honor all detainers from the Marshal’s service and do not consider that to be “optional”. Partnering with the Federal Government on criminal identification and deportation has long been our standard. I am adamantly opposed to the stance taken by Sheriff Sally Hernandez of Travis County and her policies on ICE detainers is unacceptable in my view. As a Texas Sheriff, I agree with removal of all state grant funding for those who do not comply with Federal immigration law, which creates de facto “sanctuary cities”…..Sheriff Rand Henderson, Montgomery County, Texas
