An armored truck driver was in critical condition after a shooting Monday morning outside a Chase Bank in Humble, police said.
It happened at about 10:20 a.m. in the 19700 block of North Highway 59, at FM 1960 in the Kroger Shopping Center parking lot.
Two armored guards were servicing an ATM when three or four men exited a silver Dodge charger and began firing at the guards, police said.
The security guards returned fire and the men fled.The vehicle was found a short time later on McKay Road in the back parking lot of the Park Manor Nursing Home. The left rear tire appeared to have been shot out. The vehicle was still displaying paper tags and a Carmax plate on the front.
It is reported the suspects then jumped the fence behind Park Manor and entered a red Jeep driven by a female driver.
One of the guards was hit several times by gunfire and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in very critical condition.
Kavaca Jones and her mother were just leaving Kroger’s when they heard gunshots and saw the silver Dodge Charger fleeing with a flat tire. She told her mother to follow the vehicle but her mother refused. That is when Jones saw one of the security guards on the ground bleeding badly. She went to him to comfort him until EMS arrived.
Kirk Phillip was leaving the cleaners. He had just gotten into his vehicle when shots rang out. He got a quick glimpse of the security guards and what he called the bad guys exchanging gunfire. Phillip said people were running and attempting to get out of the crowded parking lot just 50 feet away. One vehicle sideswiped Phillips vehicle as its driver tried to get to safety. Phillip said there was no where to go, people were on the floor in businesses, doors were locked. In a short time it was over as the suspects fled in a Dodge Charger.
Phillip said police and EMS arrived very quickly.
