BREAKING NEWS -JUVENILE WHO ASSAULTED DEPUTY IS CERTIFIED AS ADULT AND WILL STAND TRIAL

On April 5, 2017, Montgomery County Court at Law#1 Judge Dennis Watson heard the certification as an adult case against a juvenile who was charged in the aggravated robbery case that occurred on December 10, 2016, at the 24200 block of Sorters Road, Porter, Texas. As a result of the testimony provided in this hearing, County Court Judge Dennis Watson waived jurisdiction in juvenile court and certified Jujuan Burks Jr. 16 year old to stand trial as an adult in District Court.

ORIGINAL STORY
On Saturday, December 10, 2016, at approximately 6:50 PM, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division was dispatched to a robbery that had occurred at the Summer Hills Food Mart located in the 24200 block of Sorters Road, in Porter, Texas.
It was discovered that off duty Deputy David Miller had stopped at the location to pick up several bags of ice for a trip. After the Miller had purchased the ice, proceeded to his vehicle, and was putting the ice in an ice chest, a male, accompanied by another male, quickly approached Miller and struck him on his head/jaw. The two males then continued to assault Miller in what was described as a robbery attempt. Miller’s wife, who was in the truck, hearing what was occurring, proceeded toward the suspects with a handgun. After a confrontation, the Miller’s wife and Miller did discharge their weapons at the suspects and the suspect vehicle. Units from several agencies attempted to locate the suspects and suspect vehicle with no success.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigators, representatives from the Texas Rangers, and representatives from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office arrived at the location to investigate. The investigation continued.
On December 12, 2016, representatives from the Houston Police Department recovered a suspect vehicle believed to be utilized in the robbery attempt. The vehicle was reported as stolen in the City of Houston a day prior to the robbery attempt. After a continued investigation, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Detectives believed a third male suspect was inside the suspect vehicle during the assault. Detectives were also able to recover still photos of three persons of interest in the case.

Jujuan Burks Jr.16, as well as Israel Treqkwaun Hunter, 20, and Michael Gene Jones, 17, were all arrested within days of the assault.
