criminal negligent homicide filed in woodlands shooting

Late last night Montgomery County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested Michael Arthur Galloway Jr., age 21 of the 17100 block of Bending Oaks in Conroe. He has been charged with Criminal Negligent  Homicide. His bond has been set at $21,500.

The victim has been identified as 19-year-old James Patrick McCleary of the Woodlands.

Shortly after 2 p.m.Friday 911 operators took a call from a young man who stated his friend had accidently been shot on Flagstone Path in the Woodlands. He advised he and another friend were heading down Research Forest enroute to the hospital.

911 was able to talk him into pulling over in a shopping center on Research Forest just east of Gosling and let EMS take over. He pulled over and moments later EMS arrived. Medics and Woodlands Firefighters worked on the 19-year-old unidentified male for over 30 minutes before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Judge Connelly responded to the scene and ordered the victim to be transported to the Forensic Center in Dallas.

The Montgomery County Forensic Center is just weeks from being completed.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to take over the investigation. Some of the detectives responded to the original location of the shooting to interview another male that remained there after the shooting.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Bill Bucks stated the gun was a revolver but would not confirm the caliber. He did say the victim was shot one time in the upper chest.

The District Attorney’s Office was notified and the investigation is continuing this evening. The scene cleared just after 6 p.m. as detectives returned to the original scene.

Last night detectives determined that the actual shooting happened in the car as the victim and three friends all between 19 and 21-years-old were examining the pistol. One young man when handling the weapon accidently fired the gun.

The investigation is on-going and crime scene investigators and detectives will continue to examine evidence.
