Wednesday night just before 10p.m. DPS was dispatched to a one vehicle roll over on FM 1774 near Ruel which is just inside the Montgomery/Walker County line. MCHD and Magnolia Fire Department were also dispatched.
When they arrived on the scene they found a 1997 red Ford Ranger driven by 68-year-old Robert Ray of Montgomery. The vehicle had been southbound on FM 1774 at what appeared to be the posted speed limit when for unknown reasons it left the road striking and uprooting a tree. The vehicle then continued up the uprooted tree before rolling over and pinning the driver between the vehicle and ground.
Precinct 5 Justice of the Peace Matt Masden pronounced him dead on the scene and ordered Metcalf Funeral Directors to transport the body to Dallas for autopsy.
The truck was loaded by Huskie’s Wrecker Service.
Ray was not wearing a seatbelt.
