At 6:21pm multiple calls started filling the Montgomery County 911 Call Center reporting a head on crash at US 75 North, north of Calvary Road. North Montgomery County Fire Department arrived on the scene and found the driver of a BMW deceased.
Willis Police were assisted by DPS investigating the crash. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office Vehicular Crimes Unit also responded.
What the y found was a flat bed Dodge truck driven by Raymond Johnson. 26, of Trinity was on the northbound shoulder facing southbound and had broken down.
A female motorist stopped to see if he needed help. She told him that her husband, John Ramey had a shop down the street and would call him.
Ramey arrived on the scene and was unable to get Johnson’s vehicle going. He then backed up to it, connecting a chain and began to tow it south of US 75.
Just as both vehicles got into the southbound lane and were going down the incline , Johnson, for unknown reasons crossed the center line striking the BMW head-on.
Ramey and his son who was riding with him were uninjured. Johnson suffered minor injuries.
DPS transported both drivers to the hospital for a mandatory blood draw, however alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts ordered the male victim from Willis to be transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy by Eickenhorst Funeral Directors.
US 75 reopened just after 10:30 p.m.
No charges are being filed at this time pending the completion of the investigation.
