Just after 1 a.m. a Liberty County Deputy responded to a call which involved a neighbor shooting a dog which had come on his property.several miles north of Dayton off SH 321. When a deputy responded he was met by the homeowner who shot the dog at the front door. The homeowner was armed with a gun. The deputy in fear of his life fired hitting the suspect striking him at least once in the leg. The homeowner went back into the house as the deputy retreated.
The 51-year-old male was transported to the hospital by Life Flight, his condition is unknown at this time.
The Texas Rangers are assisting in the investigation.
