LOCAL WRECKER DRIVER AND FRIEND SAVE FOUR TEENS FROM FLOOD WATERS

About 730pm Tuesday six young boys found a 50 year old boat which had been stripped down come floating down Caney Creek near there New Caney home off FM 1485. Four of the boys ages 12 to 17 started to play on it.. A short time later with no life vests or oars the boat was picked up in the swift current and taken down stream. A short time after that the boys grandmother came to pick them up and was told by the two boys who did not get in the boat what had happened. She immediately went down the street to the New Caney Fire Station and told the chief what she had learned. A rescue effort was immediately launched and New Caney Fire Department along with Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constables Office responded to the spot the boys were last seen. They entered the water there. Slinky Knox and Ricky Overall heard the call go out of the scanner. Together they loaded Knox’s airboat on his wrecker and went to the US 59 bridge at Caney Creek. After they launched the boat they began to work upstream. They encountered low hung power lines and had to work around them. It was then they heard a yell for help. Know shut the boat down and started to call. The boys started yelling and were able to guide Know to them. As Know got close, Overall was able to pull all 4 boys in. Overall said the boat was about a foot from going under. Overall said he believes God put he and Knox where they were as another few minutes , if the boys had gotten under the 59 bridge they would have slammed into the railroad bridge and most likely killing them. One of the boys said as they traveled downstream he thought he saw some land and jumped out of the boat and tried to swim to it. It wasn’t land and on his return to the boat he became very weak fighting the current. He was so weak when he got to the boat that the other boys had to pull him in.
