Man Charged with Robbery

Lewis, Donnie Ray, Jr

Last Saturday evening, Conroe Police were called to the Walmart on North Loop 336 for a shoplifting in progress. Officers waited outside of the store while Wal Mart security monitored the shoplifter on cameras.

The suspect exited the store and was met by the police where he maced two officers. He was quickly subdued with a taser.

Causing injury to an officer automatically upgraded the shoplifting charge to robbery.

The thief is identified as Donnie Ray Lewis Jr., 44, of 6407 Antoine in northwest Houston.

He remains in the Montgomery County Jail on a total bond of $90,000.

He is charged with robbery and two counts of assault on a public servant.

Sec. 29.02. ROBBERY. (a) A person commits an offense if, in the course of committing theft as defined in Chapter 31 and with intent to obtain or maintain control of the property, he:

(1) intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to another; or

(2) intentionally or knowingly threatens or places another in fear of imminent bodily injury or death.

(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the second degree.
