Marginal Risk for Severe Storms/Excessive Rainfall on Friday

On Friday, a slow-moving storm system along with its associated cold front will move across Texas with widespread chances of showers/storms throughout the day. In the late morning/afternoon hours, some of these storms have the potential to become strong to severe. Local heavy rainfall could also lead to isolated street flooding in urban and poor drainage areas.
Overview
Rain chances begin late Thursday night as a slow-moving storm system approaches from the west. Expect those chances to steadily increase throughout the day on Friday as temperatures increase. This daytime heating could lead to some of the storms becoming strong to severe in the late morning/afternoon hours with all hazard types being possible, but the primary threats as of right now appear to be damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall. The majority of Southeast Texas has been placed under a marginal risk of severe weather and a marginal risk for excessive rainfall on Friday. Since we have been fairly dry recently, we’re not anticipating any widespread flooding issues, especially in rural areas where the soils can handle the rain. Urban areas and areas with poor drainage could see isolated bouts of street flooding underneath any storms that track slowly across the area. 1″-2″ of rainfall will be common across Southeast Texas for the duration of Thursday night through early Saturday morning, but isolated spots may see totals higher than this. Rain chances gradually decrease after a cold front pushes through the area on late Friday. Isolated light showers will be possible through late Friday night/early Saturday morning.
Alternate Possibilities
An area of low pressure could potentially develop along the Texas coastline on Friday and keep the majority of the rainfall along and off of the coast.
