MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL HAS BUSY MONTH

On 4/02/2015 MCFMO Investigators T. Baxter and D. Schifani arrested a 53 year old Magnolia resident for 1st Degree Felony Arson of a Habitation after an investigation revealed that she intentionally started a fire in her home last year.

On 4/03/2015 Lake Conroe Firefighters responded to a suspicious fire in a neighborhood park. Battalion Chief 31 and MCFMO Investigator B. Ferrell identified the juveniles involved and after speaking with the juveniles and their parents, they were referred to the MCFMO Juvenile Fire Setter Intervention Program.

On 4/05/2015 Magnolia Firefighters extinguished a fire that damaged the porch and a mobile home on Flower Mound Dr. The homeowner advised that they had used a BBQ pit on the wooden porch the night before and ash may have fallen out of the pit and ignited the fire. Investigator T. Baxter conducted the fire scene examination.

On 4/08/2015 North Montgomery County Firefighters responded to a garage fire near Lake Conroe. Fire Investigators identified the area of origin and determined that pool chemicals were the likely source of the fire, as they are relatively unstable and should not be stored near any motor oils or similar substances.

On 4/09/2015 MCFMO Investigators responded to East Montgomery County where they determined two unrelated fires had both started in the kitchen areas. New Caney and Splendora firefighters quickly extinguished both fires before they could spread. Fire Investigators determined that each of the fires had occurred when the home’s occupants were distracted while they were cooking and left the stove momentarily unattended.

On 4/10/ 2015 Needham firefighters responded to an early morning fire at a commercial business on Hwy 242. MCFMO Investigator D. Schifani determined that an unknown person or persons had vandalized and set fire to heavy equipment on the property and a criminal investigation is ongoing.

On 4/11/2015, Porter Firefighters extinguished an RV fire on Thelma Ln, but not before the RV was destroyed. MCFMO Investigator J. Manz determined the fire was intentionally set and an investigation is ongoing.

On 4/13/2015 MCFMO Fire Investigators responded to the Porter area where a 67 year old female received serious facial burns when her oxygen line came into contact with an open flame. She was treated by MCHD EMS and Porter Firefighters, and is expected to recover.

On 4/14/2015 MCFMO Investigators arrested a 47 Year old Splendora man after an investigation tied him to an arson fire that occurred in March in the Splendora area.

Later that same evening, MCFMO Investigator T. Baxter was near the Carriage Hills subdivision when a house fire was reported on Ripplewood Drive. An MCHD EMS unit was also near the scene and as Investigator Baxter arrived on scene, the EMS crew was pulling a gunshot victim from the home. A joint investigation led by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues into this incident.

On 4/16/2015 Firefighters from The Woodlands quickly extinguished a garage fire on Crownberry Ct. An investigation revealed that lightning struck a pine tree near the home before making its way into the garage and into the home’s yard sprinkler system. Fire damage was limited to the garage.

On 4/17/2015 MCFMO Fire Investigators were called to assist the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at a scene on Oak Run in Magnolia where a badly burned body had been found. A joint investigation led by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office continues into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
