New Apollo Cancer Hospital adds to status of Woodlands medical district

The Woodlands − Since its opening in December, the premier cancer diagnostic and treatment center in The Woodlands has continued to attract interest from patients, community leaders and members of the medical community.

The Apollo Hospital System, featuring the Emil J Freireich Cancer Center, joins the expanding roster of medical facilities in The Woodlands area as a specialty hospital offering state-of-the-art technology in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The 30,000-square foot facility is located at 9201 Pinecroft in Shenandoah.

"The Woodlands is a growing, vibrant community and a big part of that growth has been our dynamic medical community that just keeps getting better," said U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, who recently toured Apollo Hospital’s new facility. "More quality medical facilities − especially quality cancer care − close to home means our families don’t have to travel to the world’s greatest medical center in Houston every time they need treatment."

Brady is one of many elected officials and political candidates that has toured the cancer hospital facilities. The ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month attracted: Montgomery County Judge Alan Sadler, Conroe City Councilman Guy Martin, Montgomery County District Attorney Bret Ligon, District 15 State Representative candidate Bruce Tough, County Judge candidate Craig Doyal and Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce chair Amy Milstead.

Apollo Hospital is the newest addition to a growing and expanding community of hospitals and healthcare facilities in The Woodlands, but is unique in its exclusive focus on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Apollo Hospital, a limited partnership established under the direction and vision of board-certified oncologist Asit Choksi, is named for Dr. Emil J. Freireich, a renowned Houston cancer researcher and award-winning professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Center.

EJFCC at Apollo Hospital features top-rated imaging capabilities − critical in the early detection of cancers − equal to any in the Houston area. The Philips Ingenia 3 Tesla is a powerful MRI device that uses magnetic waves for imaging. The facility also features a 128-Slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner for high resolution examination of the human body.

"Apollo is the only facility outside of the medical center in Houston that offers the convenience of 24-hour chemo and infusion therapy," said Fawn Creighton, Apollo Hospital CEO. "Having treatment available close to home is a major convenience for those who are working or find travel difficult."

Apollo hospital is located at 9201 Pinecroft in Shenandoah. For information, visit www.apollohospitaltexas.com or call 832-246-8000.
