NWS UPDATE-SLEET AND SNOW POSSIBLE ALONG THE COAST

Changes: Have added a slight chance of light rain mixed with snow or sleet for areas around Matagorda Bay today and along the coast on Tuesday. No accumulations expected. Modified wind chill values slightly warmer for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Bottom Line
High pressure will bring very cold temperatures to Southeast Texas through Thursday morning. Weak upper level disturbances will bring some unsettled weather to the coast through Tuesday.

Overview
An upper level disturbance will bring a light rain mixed with snow or a light rain/sleet mixture to areas near Matagorda Bay. Accumulations are not expected.

On Tuesday, another upper level disturbance a weak coastal trough will bring additional light rain, light sleet or light snow or a mixture of all three to the Matagorda Bay region and areas along the coast. Accumulations are not expected.

2. Here is the wind chill forecast for Tuesday morning. Wind chills could fall into the teens.

Alternate Possibilities:

The disturbance today looks rather vigorous on satellite and the jet dynamics also look impressive. The Texas Tech model is aggressive with this feature and develops about a tenth of an inch liquid equivalent today near Matagorda Bay. If this verifies, some minor sleet accumulations will be possible.

On Tuesday, the thermal profile is below freezing but the lack of ice crystals to serve as a catalyst for snowflakes is a problem. If the soundings are correct, the predominant precipitation type on Tuesday as supported by soundings would favor drizzle or freezing drizzle.
