Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to the scene of a plane crash today, Wednesday, May 3, 2023, in an open field near Farm-to-Market Road 945, about three miles north of Highway 150.
The preliminary information indicates at approximately 1:28 p.m. A Piper aircraft departed the Conroe – North Houston Regional Airport. A student pilot and instructor reportedly experienced a mechanical issue during the flight. The instructor pilot reportedly was able to fly the plane to an open field, where it crashed while landing.
The pilot instructor is identified as Joseph Blum, 69, from Montgomery, was transported to a Conroe hospital by medical helicopter for treatment. The student pilot, identified as Darlene Woelfel, 21, from Magnolia, was also transported to a Conroe Hospital for treatment.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified to conduct an investigation. Additional information is not available at this time.
