UPDATE-BRENHAM 18-WHEELER CRASHES INTO DPS OFFICE-ONE DEAD-MULTIPLE INJURIES

Just after 10am Washington County received a call of a 2000 Peterbilt 18-wheeler was stolen from the Circle K Truck Stop at 8901 US290 in Chapel Hill. A short time later a DPS unit spotted the truck on 290 near the Four Corners Chevron, at US 290 and Highway 36 in Brenham. He attempted to stop the truck which continued west on US 290 then made the turn around and came back eastbound. The driver turned into the DPS Drivers License Office and crashed purposely into the building. After striking the building he attempted to back out and then ram the building again but was taken into custody. Multiple persons were in the building at the time and were entrapped. Three persons were critical including a 90-year-old woman who was sitting just inside the door when the truck. Also a 78-year-old man who was also sitting inside the front wall where the 18-wheeler impacted. Life Flight from Houston transported two victims to Memorial Hermann in Houston. Another helicopter transported another critical patient to St. Joseph Hospital. Three patients were transported to Scott and White in College Station and eight patients received minor injuries and refused transport. The driver of the stolen 18-wheeler was a 42-year-old male from Chapel Hill. His criminal background included criminal trespass, arson, prohibited weapons he was released from TDCJ in 2008. He was identified as Clenard Parker. Parker had been at the DPS office yesterday and attempted to get a Commercial drivers license. He was denied as he was not eligible. One of the critical patients has since died.
