US Marshals Bust Murder Suspect in MoCo

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- On Friday, US Marshals arrested a man in the 12700 block of I-45 near Conroe, and booked him temporarily into the Montgomery County Jail. Chasidy Ray Marque Mathis, 37, was wanted for the September 20, 2023 murder of a woman in Clovis, New Mexico.

According to Clovis Police, the victim, 36-year-old Melissa Silva, was shot in the chest through her bedroom window, with her teenage daughters present. Medics transported the woman to a local hospital, and she was later flown by air ambulance to a Lubbock, Texas hospital. Although she was initially intubated, the tube was later removed, and Silva told investigators what she remembered about the shooting. Unfortunately, in early December she died because of the shooting.

Immediately after the shooting, Clovis Police obtained a warrant for Mathis’s arrest on charges of Aggravated Battery on a Household Member, Child Abuse, Shooting at an Occupied Dwelling, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Mathis had seemingly vanished into thin air, though there were rumors he might be in Texas. When Silva died, police secured a warrant for Murder.

New Mexico records show Mathis’s prior arrests also include prior Battery Against a Household Member, Criminal Sexual Penetration (Aided and Abetted), Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

US Marshals caught up with Mathis Friday and arrested him on the murder warrant. His address on the jail roster is listed as W. Greens Road, in Houston, which is in the Greenspoint area off of I-45 (sometimes called Gunspoint because of the high crime rate in that area). Mathis is in the Montgomery County Jail in Conroe but will be extradited to New Mexico for trial.
