MARKEL JEWELERS GUNMAN GETS 45 YEARS
Lawrence Robertson the man who held a shotgun on customers and employees of Markel Jewelers on Market Square in The Woodlands last July will have 45 years to think about what he did. On July 17, 2014, Robertson, Ondra Moore, Dontriel Piper and Christopher Thuman walked into the Markel Jewelers. Robertson with the shotgun and two others who using wrenches and hammers smashed display cases stole over forty Rolex watches and other jewelry. They jumped into the vehicle the getaway driver sped off to Interstate 45. A Shenandoah officer spotted the vehicle and a chase started. With multiple agencies involved the chase continued down Interstate 45 to the West Mount Houston exit in Houston. There they attempted to cut through a parking lot and slammed into a pole. All four fled the vehicle and were taken into custody. One ran into the Sonic as two of the others tried to pose as Sonic customers.

Police had all but one in custody. Within minutes a Sonic employee who had been outside walked back into the business and came out screaming that a suspect was inside. As Montgomery County Deputies, DPS, Shenandoah, and Houston Police moved in the suspect jumped out a window and fled. With at least thirty officers now in a foot pursuit, that suspect was taken down in the middle of busy West Mount Houston Road.

For months Assistant District Attorney Rob Freyer and Jennifer Jordan have been working on the case. A plea agreement had finally been made with Robertson’s court-appointed attorney Nancy Knox Bierman and Robertson for 45 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Being he had a weapon he would be required by law to do half his time before even being eligible for parole.

Tuesday afternoon was set for his sentencing. As Judge Case read the charge and asked him about his agreement, Robertson told Judge Case he wanted to fire his attorney and be assigned another court-appointed attorney. Judge Case questioned Robertson about why and said that if he wanted another attorney he could appoint another but this was the only time and it would not happen again.

Rob Freyer who was also in the courtroom with Jennifer Jordan told the court if the plea that had been worked on for so many months was not accepted he was prepared to go to trial and would ask for a life sentence since Robertson had several armed robberies charges before.

After a short time of Robertson almost being ejected from the courtroom after cussing the District Attorney and other court officials as he spoke with his attorney, he accepted the plea.

Leaving the courtroom Robertson admitted he was guilty but stated that he didn’t feel he could get a fair trial in Montgomery County.

Apparently, he felt Harris County was easier on him than Montgomery County.

In 1995 Roberson was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and given 250 days in Harris County. Then in 1996 he was arrested again for unlawful carrying a weapon which got him 90 days in the Harris County Jail. Then just days after being released he was arrested again for aggravated robbery and was sentenced by a Harris County Judge to 7 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

He was released from TDC and again arrested in Houston in August of 2004 for robbery and given another 7 years. Then after being released he spent a short time on the streets when Houston Police once again caught up with him on a possession of controlled substance charge for which he spent the next 9 months in a Texas State Jail Unit.

Harris County Criminals are quickly learning Montgomery County prosecutors and juries are not tolerating them coming to Montgomery county to do their crimes and think they will not dealt with more severely than Harris County.
