At 5:17p.m. Tuesday afternoon Ruben Reyes was driving his wrecker eastbound in the 2200 block of FM 2920 when his wheel lift on the back of the truck malfunctioned and lowered. With the truck still in motion the wheel lift caused the back of the truck to come off the ground and causing the rear tires to lose road surface contact.
Reyes attempted to maintain control and swerved to the right and across the shoulder into a drainage ditch causing the truck to flip.
Reyes wife who was not wearing a seatbelt was ejected and critically injured. She was flown to Hermann Hospital by Life Flight.
A small child was in the rear seat in a child safety seat and was not injured.
Ruben Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the accident.
