AFTER TWO ATTEMPTS TO JUMP INTO PATH OF MOVING VEHICLE, MAN STABS HIMSELF

At approximately 7:27am Sunday, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call on FM 1409 and CR 440 regarding a man who had reportedly stabbed himself in the chest after jumping in front of two (2) vehicles, both of which avoided hitting him. Deputy Robert Dunn and Deputy Michelle Giaquinto reported that a sixty (60) year old man identified as Fidel Andrade who lives in the CR 440 area had jumped in front of a South bound vehicle driven by a Dayton resident who narrowly avoided missing Andrade. The man then jumped in front of a north bound vehicle also driven by a Dayton resident but this vehicle stopped short of Fidel Andrade who then fell in front of the second vehicle.

As both drivers rushed to see if the man was injured, Fidel Andrade is reported to have risen up on his knees and began stabbing himself in the chest with a steak knife. When the Deputies arrived on the scene the knife was still in the chest of Andrade. He also was suffering from two other knife wounds to the neck area. Life Flight was requested and they transported Fidel Andrade to Hermann hospital in “critical” condition. Deputies interviewed a brother of the victim, who only spoke in broken English, but he reported that his brother had no medical issues to his knowledge. An attempt was made to interview Mr. Andrade’s wife but she spoke no English, therefore she was not able to add any information about her husband’s actions.
