Saturday night, Laura Elena Montano of Houston was driving a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer southbound on Interstate 45, approximately 4 miles south of Huntsville, when a tire blew out and she lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle flipped and ejected 72-year-old Lucsila Fuentez Montano.
Montano was initially being Life Flighted to Houston but on the way, was diverted to Conroe Regional where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Spikes responded to Conroe Regional Hospital where he ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport her to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy.
Also injured were Andy Alcantar, 17, of Houston who was also flown in critical condition; Milisa Alcantar, 22 of Houston; Laura Montano and Millisa Alcantar were transported to Conroe Regional in stable condition.
According to DPS the left rear tire was defective and blew out.
Both Walker County and New Waverly Fire Departments responded to the scene.
