Firefighters and Investigators Respond to a Number of Holiday Related Incidents over New Year’s Holiday

 

On New Year’s Eve, East Montgomery County and Porter Firefighters responded to a house fire on Cherry Street in New Caney. According to the 911 caller, a candle in a bedroom ignited the fire, which led to extensive damage in the home. There were no reported injuries.

Later that evening, The Woodlands and Spring Firefighters responded to reports of a roof on fire at a vacant home on Knotwood Ct. in Spring. 911 reports indicated that fireworks had started the roof on fire, but the fire was extinguished by neighbors by the time firefighters arrived.

Just before midnight on New Year’s Eve, MCHD EMS and North Montgomery County Firefighters responded to African Hill Rd in Willis where a 25 yr. old female had been burned in a fireworks incident. MCFMO Investigators determined that the female was injured when a mortar type firework device turned over and the firework discharged, striking her in the thigh. She was treated for 2nd degree burns and transported to Conroe Regional Medical Center.

On 1/1/2016, just after the New Year arrived, MCHD EMS and East Montgomery County Firefighters responded to another fireworks injury reported on Redbud Lane in New Caney. A 31 yr. old male severely injured his hand when a mortar type firework he was holding discharged. He was treated at the scene before being taken to a local hospital by family members, but was then transferred to Ben Taub hospital in Houston due to the serious nature of his injuries.

A number of smaller fires started by fireworks were reported throughout the evening of the 31st, on into the early morning hours of New Year’s day, but none were reported to have led to major damage or injuries.

On Saturday, 1/2/2016, East Montgomery County and Porter Firefighters responded to a house on fire on Saddlerock Ln. in New Caney. The fire was reported just after 2 am and the home was heavily damaged when a fire started in the living room area. MCFMO Investigators are continuing their investigation and have determined that the fire started near a live Christmas tree. The investigation is continuing as Investigators have also discovered the remains of a hoverboard near the area of origin as well.
