The MCFMO Bomb Squad responded Saturday night to reports that a teen had been seriously injured by an explosive device. Montgomery County Pct. 4 Deputies, Porter Fire and MCHD EMS originally responded just before midnight Saturday night to reports of an explosion in the Riverwalk area and learned that a teen had been severely injured and had been transported by private auto to an area hospital.
MCFMO Explosives technicians are continuing their investigation into the incident, but initial indications are that the 16 yr. old victim had constructed an improvised explosive device and attempted to detonate it when it went off prematurely, amputating most of his right hand.
The teen is recovering in the hospital, but is expected to lose most or all of the hand injured in the explosion. No other explosive devices have been recovered, but the investigation is ongoing.
