MOTORCYCLE DISINTEGRATES IN CRASH

Cameron Russell, 19, of Cleveland was riding with a group of motorcycles northbound on FM 1725 1t 10:30 this morning when he struck a Jeep Liberty head-on. According to DPS Troopers Russell had been riding with a group of other cyclists when he swung out wide onto the southbound lane in the curve at the Liberty/San Jacinto County line. At the same time Kimberly Mcgaha was southbound in her Jeep Liberty. Russell appeared to have panicked when he saw her coming at him. His back tire slid when he braked causing his right leg to strike Mcgaha’s right front fender sending him over the handlebars and into the woods approximately fifty feet.

SADDLE CREEK

Cleveland Fire Department responded as did the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and DPS.  MCHD was also called for assistance. Russell was in critical condition with a head injury, arm injury and open fracture on his right leg. Cleveland EMS stabilized him and transported him to the Cleveland Police Departments helipad where he was taken to Hermann Hospital in Houston by PHI Air Medical.

Mchaha was suffered minor injuries from her airbag. She was not transported. She had just gotten her vehicle out of the shop after she was struck several weeks ago by an driver who was distracted.

Russell was wearing a helmet and protective gear.
