Newly Formed Livestock Unit Makes First Seizure

MCSO PRESS RELEASE

On February 15, 2017, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Livestock Unit were dispatched to the 200 block of Eastwood Drive, Conroe, Texas 77301, in reference to a call regarding animal cruelty.  Upon arrival, Deputies met with Investigators from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).  SPCA Investigator advised that they had been trying to track several horses down for more than two months.  SPCA Investigators originally located the horses on Coaltown Road back in November of 2016.  When SPCA Investigators went back for a follow up investigation the animals had been moved to an undisclosed location.  SPCA Investigators developed information that the horses were possibly moved to an address on Eastwood Dive in the City of Conroe.

During the investigation, Deputies and Investigators located and determined that the horses were in an emaciated state, far beyond what was originally observed back in November of last year.  At that time a seizure order was drafted and approved by the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office and Judge Trey Spikes.   The order requires that the horses be remanded to the custody of the Houston SPCA until final disposition of the case. The investigation continues and charges are expected to be filed soon.
