NWS Strong to Severe Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Developing

Storms have begun to develop and should continue to do so throughout the remainder of the afternoon. After temperatures soared to the upper 80-90 the atmosphere has become very unstable and moisture is pooled over the area.

These boundaries should collide and become a focus very heavy rains and stronger storms.

Expect rainfall rates of 2″ hour with most storms and the stronger may be capable of 3+” rates. Strong to Severe thunderstorms will be possible with winds 40-60mph and small hail.

The rain threat should taper down after 9 pm as the line sags south and pushes back toward the coast.

If the line holds together offshore then marine interests should be prepared for gusty winds in excess of 30 knots with the stronger storms between 7 and 11 pm.
