OFFICER KILLED IN LODD EXACTLY 26 YEARS AFTER FATHER KILLED IN LODD

Investigator Michael Davis was shot and killed during a massive manhunt for the murderer of Deputy Sheriff Danny Oliver, of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, a short time earlier.
The subject who murdered Deputy Oliver, and his female accomplice, had carjacked a vehicle and fled up I-80 and exited at Auburn, before stopping on the side of the road. Investigator Davis and his partner spotted the vehicle and began to approach it when the male subject opened fire with an AR-15 rifle, striking both officers.
Both officers were transported to a local hospital where Investigator Davis succumbed to his wounds.
The female subject was arrested at the scene while the male subject fled into a residential area. He was taken into custody several hours later.
Investigator Davis had served with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department for 15 years.
Investigator Davis’ father, Investigator Michael Davis Sr., was killed in the line of duty on October 24th, 1988, while serving with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Their line of duty deaths occurred exactly 26 years apart to the day.

Investigator Michael Davis, age 34,  was killed in a helicopter accident while working on a multi-agency narcotics task force on October 24, 1988.. A car was spotted in a canyon and the helicopter began to descend when its rotor blades struck power lines and caused it to crash.
Also killed in the accident were Deputy James McSweeney of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Roy Chester of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Sergeant Richard Romero of the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department, and Deputy Mark Tonkin of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and the three California National Guard crew members operating the flight.
Investigator Davis had served with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department for nine years. He was survived by his wife, four sons, daughter, parents, and siblings.
One of Investigator Davis’ son, Investigator Michael Davis Jr., was shot and killed in the line of duty on October 24th, 2014, while serving with the Placer County Sheriff’s Department. Their line of duty deaths occurred exactly 26 years apart to the day.

Deputy Sheriff Danny Oliver was shot and killed as he and another deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a motel in the 2000 block of Arden Way.
A male occupant of the vehicle opened fire on the deputies with an AR-15 rifle, striking Deputy Oliver in the forehead. The man and a female occupant then fled in the vehicle as his partner returned fire. A short distance away the male shot a civilian when they attempted to carjack a vehicle. They then carjacked two other vehicles as they continued fleeing the area.
After carjacking the second vehicle the pair fled up I-80 to Auburn, where they exited the highway and stopped on the side of the road. They were spotted by Investigator Michael Davis, of the Placer County Sheriff’s Department, and his partner. As the two officer approached the vehicle the man opened fire with the AR-15 rifle, striking both deputies. Investigator Davis succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital.
The female was arrested at the scene while the male subject was arrested several hours later after barricading himself inside a nearby home.
Deputy Oliver had served with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department for 15 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
