SHENANDOAH, TEXAS. (September 23, 2016) Following the Shenandoah City Administrator’s recommendation and City Council’s approval, Raymond M. Shaw was appointed to serve as Acting Chief of Police following the retirement of long time Chief, John Chancellor. Shaw’s appointment is effective immediately.

Shaw joined the Shenandoah Police Department in 1997 and has risen through the ranks from patrol officer to patrol sergeant and then to detective sergeant, and was promoted to lieutenant in 2014. Before coming on board at Shenandoah, he was with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Constable’s Office as a patrol deputy, SWAT Operator and Academy Instructor. He is a Master Peace Officer and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership.

“Raymond is a great asset to the Shenandoah Police Department and his background and experience will serve us well as he assumes the role of Acting Police Chief. He demonstrates strong commitment to the police department and to the City,” said Shenandoah City Administrator Greg Smith. “As we move forward, we plan to continue the professionalism and high standard of law enforcement that the SPD is known for.”

During his tenure with SPD, Shaw has a proven track record with management of the patrol division, as well as with investigation. He also co-designed the Active Deadly Threat course for the Law Enforcement Management Institute at Sam Houston State University and provided consultation services to law enforcement officers from across the State of Texas.
