FATAL ACCIDENT ON FM 2090

At 4:38 am Wednesday morning a bicyclist was traveling eastbound on FM 2090 just east of Daw Collins when an SUV traveling west crossed the fog line and struck the bicycle, splitting it in two and ejecting the rider. The driver was not sure what he hit but turned around and came back to the scene. FM 2090 was down to one lane until just before 8 am. The bike rider, who was wearing dark clothes had only small reflectors on the bike. HE was hit with a glancing blow causing damage to the front right of the SUV. The rider was transported to Kingwood Hospital in critical condition. The bicyclist who has not been identified was pronounced deceased at Kingwood Hospital. The driver was cited for crossing the fog line. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control as it was investigated. Body Colors Wrecker removed the bike.

EDITOR NOTE: IT IS VERY SAD THE MOTORISTS THAT HAVE NO REGARD FOR POLICE OFFICERS. 90 % OF THE VEHICLES THIS MORNING WERE NOT EVEN SLOWING FOR THE SCENE AND SEVERAL DISREGARDING OFFICERS.
This law requires drivers to move over a lane or slow to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when approaching emergency vehicles, law enforcement, tow trucks, utility service vehicles, TxDOT vehicles or other highway construction or maintenance vehicles using visual signals or flashing lights activated on the roadside. On roadways with posted speed limits of 25 miles per hour or less, drivers must reduce their speed to 5 miles per hour (Texas Transportation Code 545.157).
